Guard our hearts

-

PROVERBS 4:23 (NLT) Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

We live in a day, where the world has so been connected through social media.

This is wonderful in many ways, however the degree of connectivity, carries with it many serious draw back. We are all now aware through emoticons, likes, thumbs up and comments what everyone thinks of every event, thought or comment that comes from us.

To this end, there has never been so many ‘heart conditions’ as we have today.

The scripture encourages us to ‘guard our hearts’. This is because many times the condition of our hearts will always affect the atmosphere around us.

The atmosphere around us will either attract, distract or repulse. It is important that we take the added step to guard our hearts and the best way to do this is filter everything that we consume emotionally. Just as we look at nutritional benefits of food stuffs, we should ask our selves is there emotional nutritional value in our online engagements and then filter it accordingly.

This calls for disciplines such as a social media fast so as to regain our emotional and mental health which then translates to healthy real life friendships, relationships and family life. So lets develop the practise of asking ourselves. What’s on the social media menu.
