$1.5M DEBT SANK THE OFFICE
THE ex-owner of Toowoomba bar The Office cited attempts to clamp down on a “drug culture” within the venue’s customers as a contribut utor to the demise of the previous parent company.
Liquidator Robson Cotter Insolvency found Speakeasy Toowoomba Pty Ltd, which ran The Office and sister bar The Chelsea until a few months ago, had liabilities of more than $1.5 million, and just $10,000 worth of assets.
The statutory report to creditors put its demise down to a “lack of significant working capital”, and “economic factors” in the hospitality industry.
company director Scott Hoskins said among the factors contributing to the collapse of the company was his hardline stance against drugs in The Office, which pushed patrons away.
