MRS TANYA APPLEBY

ST URSULA’S College in Toowoomba welcomed Tanya Appleby as its new principal last week.

Mrs Appleby was officially inaugurated during a school ceremony with students, staff and dignitaries on Thursday.

She is the 12th principal to lead the Catholic girls school in its 87 years.

The appointment comes after former principal Ann-Marie Pawsey retired after serving 13 years in the role.

Mrs Appleby said she was committed to the continuous improvement and progressive education to ensure the students were future-ready.

“My personal motto is good, better, best. I have high expectations of myself and will expect the same of you,” she told students and staff.

“I am committed to the education of women so that they are empowered to lead and contribute to the world with a sense of purpose.”

Before becoming the principal at St Ursula’s, Mrs Appleby held leadership roles in other schools such as Trinity Catholic College in Goulburn and Our Lady of Mercy College in Parramatta.

Mrs Appleby is passionate about the education of girls and was inspired by the college’s record for supporting important social justice issues.

She said students needed to seize every opportunity, be courageous in the face of adversity, bold enough to take action and strive for excellence.
