WORKING smoke alarms woke the residents of a home in a remote Western Downs town in time for them to escape a raging house fire early yesterday morning.

Multiple Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews responded to reports of a structure fire in Burra Burri, more than 75km north-east of Chinchilla, about 2.20am.

First crews on scene reported the home was fully involved in fire and the occupants had managed to escape from the property on Burra Burri Darr Creek Rd.

Crews from Jandowae, Dalby and Chinchilla battled the inferno for more than two hours, bringing the blaze under control and preventing its spread to neighbouring properties.

The home was opposite the Burra Burri State School on the town’s main street.

Queensland Ambulance paramedics were put on standby at the incident scene but were not required to treat any patients.

There were no transports to hospital.

A QFES spokewoman said the home was fitted with working smoke alarms which woke the residents inside.

Initial investigations suggested there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire.

The cause is yet to be determined.
