No longer archbishop

-

PHILIP Wilson will remain a bishop in the Catholic Church after finally resigning as the Archbishop of Adelaide following a period of “discernment”.

Wilson was in May found guilty of concealing child abuse, becoming the most senior Catholic cleric to be convicted of not disclosing abuse to police. The abuse was committed by priest James Fletcher in the 1970s.

Wilson had said he would not step aside until his appeal against his 12-month home detention was complete. But, as calls to quit mounted, he wrote to Pope Francis on July 20.
