England greats turn on spinner

-

CRICKET: England great Geoffrey Boycott has labelled recalled Test spinner Adil Rashid a “spoilt brat” whose performances won’t be remembered in 10 years.

Despite declaring himself unavailable for red-ball county cricket at the start of year, Rashid (pictured) has been picked in England’s Test squad for the Test series against India off the back of some impressive white-ball form.

The call-up has sparked criticism, with Michael Vaughan calling Rashid’s approach “unprofessional” and his Test recall "ridiculous".

The former England captain’s comments drew the ire of Rashid, who said Vaughan’s were stupid and “do not matter to anybody”. That angered fellow Yorkshireman Boycott, who said Rashid was “a spoilt brat” who “should never had been handed a Test recall”.

“Michael Vaughan criticised him, so he hit out like a spoilt child ... let me tell Adil that Vaughan will be remembered as one of the greatest England captains and an elegant, superb batsman,” Boycott said.

“In 10 years nobody will remember Adil’s Test-match performances.”

England begins its five Test series against India at Headingly tonight.
