Downlands and Sunshine Coast in tight encounter

RUGBY UNION: Downlands College helped prepare for a busy August of rugby with back-to-back First XV games at the school last week.

On Thursday, Downlands hosted touring UK school Sevenoaks and scored a 52-5 win over the visitors.

Downlands’ best players in its eight-tries-to-one victory included Peter Halapio, Mac Grealy and Henry Tonkin.

Downlands also won the under-16 match against Sevenoaks 33-7.

On Saturday, Downlands welcomed Sunshine Coast Grammar School to Toowoomba.

Sunshine Coast took the honours in a tight match 32-26 after leading 22-17 at half-time.

Downlands’ best included Alex McKay, Mac Grealy and Tom Gore.

Other matches on the day saw Sunshine Coast take out the under-13 game 12-5; Downlands prevailed in the under-14 match 31--2 while Sunshine Coast was victorious 12-5 in the under 15/16 encounter.

This week Downlands plays Brisbane Boys College at home in all grades from 9am-4pm with the First XV match starting at 2.10pm.
