Twins support each other
Sisters heading to Melbourne to participate in charity event
BREAST cancer survivor Christine Paroz is excited about the trip she and sister Fran Osborne will make to Melbourne this month for charity.
The twin sisters are heading south to participate in this year’s Breast Cancer Network’s Field of Women.
Mrs Paroz was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer in 2005.
She said it was a scary moment when she received her diagnosis.
“I knew there was something wrong but I didn’t realise how bad it was,” she said.
“I sat down with my breast surgeon and went through the problem in detail, which is when she told me she couldn’t perform the surgery.”
Mrs Paroz went through chemotherapy before she had surgery.
“After the surgery, the doctors found that I had HER2-positive breast cancer,” she said.
“After the new cancer was found I would be put on a trial drug which kept my cancer at bay.”
Breast cancer has been a personal issue for the twins, who lost their mother to the disease in 1973.
Mrs Osborne said she felt privileged to be able to participate in the event.
“It will be great to see everyone’s face at the event and to be given to opportunity to represent the 18,000 men and women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year,” Mrs Osborne said.
“It’s important for women to not hesitate to get a check up if they find a lump.”
