Last stop for state show tour
Local singers take to the stage
TOOWOOMBA singer Marina Paroz is excited to take to the stage at the Empire Theatre tonight.
Ms Paroz will join 20 other singers from Toowoomba to be part of Opera Queensland’s production of Ruddigore, or The Witch’s Curse.
The singers were selected from auditions as part of Opera Queensland’s Project G&S for the show.
They all took part in an eight-week free, intensive development program of rehearsals to hone their singing, dancing and stage craft skills.
“The program was pretty intense, we were trying to fit in a lot in a very short amount of time,” Ms Paroz said.
“This is the first time I have done an Opera Queensland production and it is a fantastic opportunity.
“It’s exciting to be performing with a professional cast.”
The Toowoomba performance of the show is the last stop of the production’s tour.
Opera Queensland actor Bryan Probets said it was a wonderful experience to work with the local singers.
“Each group has brought their own unique dynamic to the piece,” Mr Probets said.
“It’s has also been really good to interact with people who are just as enthusiastic about performing as the main cast are.”
Opera Queensland head of learning regional and community Mark Taylor said it was always nice to finish a tour in Toowoomba.
“Toowoomba is traditionally a choral town which has a wonderful performing history,” Mr Taylor said.
Ruddigore, or The Witch’s Curse will be performed at the Empire Theatre from 7.30pm.
