Global solar prices slashed as China cuts funding

-

An unexpected announcement by the Chinese government to dramatically cut its solar power subsidies has sent solar prices tumbling worldwide. The steep drop in China’s solar demand has led to an oversupply of tier one solar products in the global market, with manufacturers seeking to unload their products often at a loss. With prices falling by 35% in Australia, NOW really is the time to invest in solar.

Glen Ashton, Managing Director of SAE Group, a local solar, air conditioning, and electrical company agreed “We have never seen the cost of solar this low before, and Nathan and I have more than 40 years combined experience in the electrical industry.”

This price drop is forecasted to only last till the end of 2018 in Australia, with the government likely to significantly cut solar rebates due to solar prices being massively below expectations. The rebate which currently reduces the cost of solar over 50% is predicted to be phased out in less than 6 months. This is to encourage Australians to install solar sooner rather than later, and to take advantage of the extremely low global solar prices before they rise again. In fact, there is no guarantee that the government won’t eliminate the rebate entirely at the end of this year which would almost double the price of systems.
