THERE is a plethora of “self-help” books out there. The question is, which of these is likely to help you (assuming of course that you are searching for advice)?

Dr Darren Morton is an internationally recognised expert in lifestyle medicine and a former iron-man.

He specialises in the creation of evidence-based lifestyle interventions and is a key presenter of a nutrition-centred program that helps people with chronic ailments and even in some cases, reverse them.

Dr Morton draws together the latest findings from neuroscience (how our brains work), positive psychology and offers scientifically proven ways to improve emotional wellbeing and life satisfaction.

Simple changes can make all the difference; he advocates real-life interactions in preference to social media, and spending time outdoors enjoying nature and the sun.

Making time to smell the roses? He has coined a phrase; Nature Deficit Disorder, where children are more prone to anxiety, depression and ADD.

Although Australia is ranked as one of the top 10 happiest countries, antidepressants are the most commonly used medication, taken by one in 10 adults daily.

Dr Morton says we can all lift our mood and be happier. His wise and useful tips are worth taking on board. It’s up to us to practice what he preaches!
