Toowoomba players earn state selection
CRICKET: Toowoomba’s Harrison Weir has been named in Queensland’s under-17 squad for the upcoming national championships.
Weir, who performed strongly at the State Under-16 Challenge earlier this year, is one of two regional players to have emerged from the Queensland Cricket Pathway and Academy system.
Toowoomba Wests player Sam Neale was one of two stand-by players named for the squad along with Wynnum-Manly’s Sam Hatherall.
The team will be coached by former English international all-rounder Adam Hollioake, with John Davison as the assistant coach.
Mackay will play host to the first week of the 2018-19 Cricket Australia Under 17 Male National Championships from October 1-10 with the remaining four rounds to be played in Brisbane. Matches in Mackay will be played at the Harrup Park complex and Magpies Cricket Club, with day-night cricket to feature at a domestic U17 level for the first time at Harrup Park.
