Chamber is a voice for business in an uncertain age

- JO SHEPPARD Chamber CEO

A KEY role for chambers across Australia is ensuring that businesses have a strong, united voice and are represented and advocated for at a local, state and national level.

The Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce is working closely with our members, other regional chambers, industry groups and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland to provide Toowoomba businesses with strong representation.

Small business is the heartland of our community and the engine room of our economy.

Small business provides over half of all jobs in Toowoomba and also contributes significantly to the social fabric of our community.

Businesses are operating in an increasingly competitive and fluid environment which without doubt provides opportunities but also considerable challenges.

Stability and certainty in public policy and government is important for business.

Leadership spills from both major political parties over the last decade and a growing sense of short term politics being placed ahead of longer term national interests is very concerning for the business community.

Escalating energy prices, maintaining global competitiveness, digital connectivity, skills shortages, tightening margins, waste management, the cost of doing business, drought and increasing red tape are but a few of the issues currently on the table for businesses.

The collective strength of the Chamber of Commerce network is needed now more than ever, to provide a united, independent voice for business so that our communities continue to provide an environment that is conducive to operate a sustainable business.

The Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce joins the Queensland Chamber network in asking the Federal government to focus on articulating a clear policy agenda to give confidence to the small business sector.

I encourage businesses across the region to get involved with their respective chambers and ensure their businesses are accessing Chamber’s regional, state, national and global networks to leverage the best representation possible for their business.

Let’s work together to value small business and the families who operate them.
