Sun shines on the city for Father’s Day
FATHER’S Day is a time to remember the important role dads play in our lives.
For the Kelly family, a few snags from the barbie was the perfect accompaniment to the tales of patriarch Kev’s past heroics.
Nathan Kelly summed up his feelings for his father in four words.
“He’s a great bloke,” he said. Joined by his brothers Ryan and Julian, Nathan recalled a fond memory of his father.
But it wasn’t exactly a bonding moment that came to mind.
“My favourite memory of Kev? One time someone tried to break into the cars and Kev deadset chased them I reckon two blocks with his shirt and shoes off,” he said.
“He cracked around the block like Usain Bolt trying to catch these burglars, if that’s not Australian I don’t know what is.”
For the Kelly boys, the perfect gift was an easy decision to make.
“I made him a cup with all of his favourite people on it,” Nathan Kelly said.
“It’s got me, (my brothers), Steve Irwin, Scott Cam, Jonathan Thurston – the important people in his life.
“There’s nothing I love more than (Dad) I wouldn’t trade him for anyone.
“Maybe Steve Irwin, but that ship has sailed.”
The Kellys were a number of families that packed out the region’s sun-kissed parks to celebrate Father’s Day at the weekend.
