$6000 raised in Steven’s honour

-

THE “Murray Greys” Cycling Group remembered one of their own at a fundraiser last weekend for a well-known and greatly admired colleague and friend, the late Professor Steven Raine.

The cycling group raised funds for St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital, a provider of support services for terminally ill patients and their families.

The group raised more than $6000, which will enable the purchase of an oxygen concentrator unit for terminally ill patients.

Professor Steven Raine used the services of the St Andrew’s Hospital Palliative Care Program during his battle with his illness.

The purchase of a vital oxygen concentrator enables palliative patients to stay in their homes longer with their loved ones around them during the final phase of their lives.

It delivers purified oxygen via a nasal tube or mask and can be used for a number of different medical conditions.

The machine will be available for patients to take home on a loan basis for the period of time needed, free of charge.

The fundraiser dinner was a sell-out and was held at Inbound Restaurant in the state listed heritage station building which provided the ideal backdrop to celebrate all that is special about the comradery of cycling. More than 100 attendees enjoyed a black tie, fine threecourse dining experience created by the wonderful team at Inbound in the presence of those who appreciate the significance of cycling and true mateship.
