Experience Zeppelin time warp

-

INFECTIOUS hooks, wailing solos and the picture of rock’n’roll’s excess, Led Zeppelin’s music gave birth to generations of rockers.

Now The Led Zeppelin Experience is a making its way to Australia, hoping to bring audiences the truest and most authentic Zeppelin vibe, minus their inspiration’s more infamous exploits.

It’s a show that so faithfully recreated that Zeppelin sound that it even impressed original member John Paul Jones.

“I never have to worry about touring with my band again,” he reportedly said.

Their executive producer Dennis D’Amico, who has worked with the likes of Paul McCartney, was sceptical when the band members first contacted him to represent them.

“Guys, I really don’t do tribute bands,” he told them. “A lot of them sound really great musically, but when the singer opens his mouth, it’s almost there, but not close enough.”

D’Amico has worked for more than 40 years in entertainment as an actor, musician and now as a producer.

He was there during the original Led Zeppelin’s rise, even having friends that worked with the band. So when he flew to Seattle to watch the tribute band, he was stunned.

“I was looking to retire back then,” he said.

“To find this band and enjoy them so much, it’s hard not to want to help them build this band.”

The original British supergroup vowed never to play together again in 1980 after the death of drummer John Bonham – only breaking that vow for a one-off show in 2007.

D’Amico said he’d witnessed the dedication of The Led Zeppelin Experience, formerly known as No Quarter, to imitating the legendary rockers.

“They’re always trying to go deeper and deeper,” D’Amico said.

● The Led Zeppelin Experience’s Hammer of the Gods Tour will be at the Villa Noosa Hotel, Noosaville, on Saturday, November 24. Book on 5430 5555.
