TOOWOOMBA GRAMMAR School has bid farewell to its first photographer in residence after a five-week art program.

Photographer Vincent Parisi taught students the importance of light and composition at the TGS photography studio and helped them to develop their ideas and portfolios.

“In the past this role has been filled with practitioners of more traditional mediums, such as painting and illustration,” Mr Parisi said.

“But this time around they were looking for something more digital, particularly now students are working across multiple platforms.”

Mr Parisi said photography formed the basis for many types of art, including sketching and painting from a transferred image.

“It was good to familiarise the students with the photography studio - many of them hadn’t used it before and now they will feel more comfortable,” he said.

Mr Parisi, who specialises in natural landscapes and portraits, said many of the students showed promise.

“The boys have been really engaged in the concepts and have been blending things together to enhance their pieces,” Mr Parisi said.

“A couple of students in Year 12 are particularly talented and very passionate - I am excited to follow their trajectories.”
