CRICKET: Northern Brothers has the opportunity to record a clean sweep of the TCI lower grade grand finals this weekend.

Fresh after scraping into the finals of the Harding-Madsen Shield, the Diggers will field teams in the reserve grade and B-grade deciders at Captain Cook Reserve.

Their unbeaten season has them installed as favourites to take out the reserve grade crown courtesy of three victories.

The form of Gavin Steger will be key to their chances after he fell just one run short of a century in last week’s outing against University, as well as taking two wickets with the ball.

Jacob Verrall has been another standout for the Diggers bowling ranks, taking nine wickets in three games at an average of 10.33.

They won’t have it easy though after Highfields produced a confidence-boosting 104-run win in the last round to secure their grand final spot.

Brendan Galvin was unstoppable in that game, scoring 73 runs with the bat and taking four wickets as well.

This will mark the teams first meeting of the season after their scheduled round two clash was washed out.

The rain played havoc with the B-grade fixtures as well, however it set up a thrilling race for the final two.

Northern Brothers and Western Districts both secured their place in the decider by the barest of margins with final round victories.

Games will commence at 12.15pm tomorrow at Captain Cook Reserve.
