Roma yarding tops 10,000
ROMA
CATTLE numbers continued to rise at the Roma Store Sale up by 880 head to 10,300. Cattle were drawn from across Queensland and the Northern Territory. The usual panel of buyers was present and operating. The yarding was dominated by young cattle of mixed quality, with steers accounting for almost half the yarding. Demand for the better-quality lines of cattle remained strong, however the yarding experienced quality-related price changes across all categories. Light weight yearling steers to restockers decreased 13c to 32c/kg. Feeder steers remained firm with little change across the weight categories. A small sample of heavy weight steers to feed increased by 2c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers increased by 10c, while medium weight yearling heifers to domestic feed decreased by 11c/kg. There were limited numbers of grown steers and heifers yarded. Cows were back across the board from 1c to 13c/kg.
A good sample of light weight yearling steers to restockers sold to 310.2c to average 309c/kg. A large sample of yearling steers in the 200-280kg weight category going to restockers sold to 335c to average 313c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to domestic feed sold to 318.2 to average 315c/kg. A small sample of heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 310.2c to average 308c/kg. A good sample of light weight yearling heifers to restockers sold to 330.2c to average 305c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to domestic feed sold to 286.2c to average 267c/kg. A small sample of heavy weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 300.2c to average 300c/kg.
A large sample of medium weight two-score cows sold to 234.2c to average 204c, while the medium weight three-score cows sold to 251.2c to average 243 c/kg.
WARWICK
NUMBERS remained very close to the previous week’s level and similar to other markets. Young cattle were in the largest numbers, along with a small selection of heavy grown steers and bullocks and a fair sample of cows. Buyer attendance was generally good, with representatives covering all classes. Light weight yearling steers to restockers experienced only quality-related price changes, while medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to firm demand. Light weight yearling heifers could not maintain the levels of the previous sale. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed had very little change in price. Cows sold to a mixed trend with plain condition lines cheaper, while good heavy cows held firm.
A small sample of vealer heifers sold to local butchers at an average of 291c, with sales to 310.2c/kg. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 321c and made to 350.2c/kg. Yearling steers to feed weighing 280-330kg made to 323.2c to average 308c/kg. The largest sample of medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 316c and made to 321.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 307c and made to 310.2c, with the occasional B-muscle class to the trade making to 329.2c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers or background made to 271.2c, with most making about 260c/kg. The largest sample of medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 288c and made to 304.2c/kg.
Heavy grown steers to export processors averaged 306c and made to 317.2c, and a couple of bullocks made to 304.2c/kg. A small number of full-mouth bullocks made to 298.2c to average 295c/kg. Medium weight two-score cows average 199c and made to 210c/kg. Most good heavy cows sold for about 244c, with sales to 255.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 258.2c/kg.
TOOWOOMBA
THE supply of stock experienced a small lift to 528 head and mixed quality young cattle were in the largest numbers, along with a few heavy grown steers and bullocks, and a relatively small penning of cows. A fair panel of buyers was present and operating across all classes. Light weight yearling steers to restockers averaged 24c/kg dearer. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to the trade improved in price. Light weight yearling heifers averaged 6c cheaper, while the medium weight yearling heifers to the trade or feed gained 9c to 12c/kg. Heavy grown steers and bullocks were too small in numbers to reliably quote. Cows sold to a market 8c to 13c/kg cheaper.
Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top of 364.2c, with a fair sample about 332c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to the trade made to 329.2c to average 311c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to the trade made to 317.2c to average 310c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feed or background made to 282.2c to average 268c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to the trade made to an isolated 317.2c to average 286c, while feeder classes made to 286.2c, with most making from 272c to 280c/kg.
A few medium weight four-tooth steers to feed made to 307.2c to average 303c/kg. A handful of heavy grown steers to export processors made to 298.2c, while a small selection of bullocks made to 310.2c to average 304c/kg. Medium weight two-score cows made to 204.2c to average 194c/kg. A couple of good heavy cows made to 242.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 271.2c/kg.
DALBY
NUMBERS reduced by 1236 head to 5031 at Dalby. Cattle were drawn from a wide area with 1570 from far western Queensland, 161 from NSW and 171 head from SA, with the remainder from the usual supply areas. Export buyer attendance was not as good at the previous sale, however a large panel of feeder buyers were operating. Medium weight yearling steers to feed gained 2c to 5c and heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 3c/kg better. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed at the time of this interim report had lost 4c/kg. Heavy grown steers and bullocks sold close to firm, however cows lost 9c to 11c/kg.
Medium weight C2 and C3 yearling steers to feed made from 260c to 324.2c, while heavy weights made from 284.2c to 322.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed are selling from 265.2c to 292.2c at the time of this interim report.
Grown steers in the 400-500kg range sold from 224.2 to 228.2c, those in the 500-600kg range made from 307.2c to 313.2c and the heavy weights made 285c to 315c/kg. Grown heifers 540kg-plus sold from 227.2c to 293.2c, averaging 292.2c/kg. D1 and D2 cows to restockers made from 156.2c to 206.2c, with the heavy weight D2, D3 and D4s to processors making from 223.2c to 255.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made from 222.2c to 265.2c, with the best light weight C3 bull making 288.2c/kg.
BIGGENDEN
BURNETT Livestock and Realty’s meatworks and store sale at Biggenden on Monday, November 5, had a yarding of 1625 head. For a very hot day, the cattle sold to a fully firm market with any price reductions from the previous sale being quality related.
Cattle were drawn from Yaamba, Banana, Theodore, Monto, Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Murgon, Crownthorpe, Hervey Bay, Lowmead, Miriam Vale and local areas.
Brahman-cross bullocks from Maryborough sold for 292c/$1585. Crossbred bullocks from Coalstoun Lakes sold for 281c/$1321. Charbray bullocks from Biggenden sold for 290c/$1465.
Charbray cows from Biggenden sold for 265c/$1551. Charbray cows from Gayndah sold for 265c/$1604. Santa gertrudis cross cows from Murgon sold for 261c/$1387. Charbray cows from Biggenden sold for 251c/$1155. Brahman-cross cows from Monto sold for 249c/$1171. Brahman cows from Theodore sold for 258c/$1639. Brahman-cross cows from Hervey Bay sold for 261c/$1337.
MURGON
THERE were 980 yarded in Murgon on Tuesday. Export cattle and feeder types remained fully firm on the previous market, with younger weaner steers and heifers slightly easier. Cattle were consigned from Mundubbera, Coringa, Biggenden, Gayndah, Kingaroy and Nanango. Heavy bulls sold to $2.74c/kg and $2420. Bullocks topped at $3.11c/kg for $2050. The cow market was fully firm with 500kg-plus animals selling to $2.59c/kg and $1650. Cows 400-500kg sold to $2.35c/kg, averaging $2.25c/kg. Cows less than 400 kg sold to $2.20c/kg. Export heifers to $2.90c/kg.
