TODAY’S TELEVISION MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12
Doctor Who ABC, 6.05pm
We’re now more than halfway through the highly anticipated 11th season of Doctor
Who, but it may take a while before Peter Capaldi’s electric performance as the 12th Doctor is a distant memory. For some fans, seeing the famous time-travelling alien as a woman has been an adjustment, but for most it has been a breath of fresh air (along with some very witty puns) as the charismatic Jodie Whittaker settles into the iconic role. In “Demons Of The Punjab”, we are transported to 1947, in Punjab, India. The Doctor and her friends arrive as the country is being torn apart. Yaz (Mandip Gill) tries to uncover her grandmother’s history.
Child Genius SBS, 7.30pm
“I didn’t teach him that, I don’t know where he got it from,” a father nervously laughs in this enlightening and upbeat new quiz show with a difference. Fronted by “quizmaster” Dr Susan Carland (pictured) and overseen by Mensa, Child
Genius brings 19 gifted children together to compete for the title of Australia’s Child Genius. The camera follows the drama on stage, but also ventures into the children’s homes, giving us an intimate portrait of these rather adorable and quirky geniuses, as well an insight into the diverse parents and the challenges they face. Tonight’s premiere kicks off with the subjects science and memory recall.
God Friended Me SEVEN, 9pm
Have you taken the leap of faith and tuned into this uplifting, original new US series? Premiering last week, it is about faith, God – and Facebook – but don’t let that put you off. We follow the story of the charming Miles Finer (Brandon Micheal Hall,
Search Party), who hosts a podcast on atheism, despite having a reverend father. But when someone called God befriended him on social media last week, curious and alarming instances started happening. Tonight, in “The Good Samaritan”, the God account suggests that
Miles should befriend a single mother.
