Rangers go down in narrow loss
BASEBALL: The Toowoomba Rangers have fallen to 3-3 on the GBL division three season after a tight 2-0 loss to Surfer’s Paradise at the weekend.
Singles in the first and eighth inning were enough to seal the victory as the Rangers were left to rue the game that got away.
“It was a pretty good game. We had a lot of opportunities though,” player-coach Daryl Luchterhand said.
“We left nine runners on base and couldn’t bring them home.
“Sam was outstanding on the mound again and Laurie Taylor got two hits.
“We swung alright but just couldn’t come up with the crucial hits.”
Luchterhand said it was a tough loss to take with so many runners left on base, however praised the defensive effort which allowed just two runs.
“You think of what could have been. All we had to do was convert a third of them and we win the game,” he said.
“We’ve still got a lot of work to do to be where we want to be.
“Defensively we were strong, it’s just our offence that we really need to lift in crucial situations.
“You can’t leave runners on against any team in this league and the biggest part of where we need to get better is we have to hit better.”
Toowoomba is again on the road this weekend as they look to bounce back when they face the Baseball Queensland Bandits.
