Pay it forward to help families doing it tough this Christmas

-

THE pay it forward movement is not a new concept, but one that goes perfectly with the spirit of Christmas.

Paying it forward is when someone does something kind for you, and instead of paying that person back directly you do a good deed for another person instead.

Liebke Tyres owner Chris Liebke is implementing the movement this Christmas, by raising funds to buy gifts for those in need.

The Toowoomba community has been good to Mr Liebke and his business over the years so now he wants to return the favour.

“The idea came about because this time of year we all take particular notice of how much great stuff we have in our lives, but on the flip side it also makes us realise how some people really do it tough,” he said.

“We wanted to do whatever we could to try and make a difference to as many lives as possible.”

Mr Liebke’s hope is to raise $5000 to give 50 struggling families vouchers for food for Christmas or presents for their children.

“If people want to help us they can drop in and donate money. We would love for 50 businesses to give $100 each,” he said.

“Together we really can make a difference. No kid should have to miss out.”

Last Christmas Mr Liebke also raised funds to buy gifts for hundreds of children in foster care.

He is often praised for his giving spirit, but brushes it off saying it is something he feels he needs to do for the community.

So far more than $1000 has been raised for the pay it forward initiative.
