Gollan chases victory

Splitz back on track in Toowoomba

- GLEN MCCULLOUGH glenm@thechronicle.com.au

RACING: Eagle Farm fouryear-old Splitz will look to continue the latest hot winning streak of trainer Tony Gollan when he searches for back-toback Clifford Park wins tomorrow.

Splitz returns for a sevenday back up in this week’s Northbuild Construction Class 3 Plate (1300m).

The consistent Sepoy gelding broke a sequence of six successive third placings last Saturday with an all-the-way victory in the Class 2 Handicap (1300m).

Splitz was one of five winners at Doomben and Clifford Park last Saturday for Gollan while he was also part of a five win day for jockey Skye Bogenhuber who partners him again tomorrow.

Hardest for Splitz to beat includes early equal $2.70 favourite Coolmunda who lines up for Sexton and Fry Racing following her spacious last-start Clifford Park three weeks ago.

Coolmunda will again be ridden by apprentice Baylee Nothdurft who returns this week from a careless riding suspension.

Texas Cup day

THE $12,000 Jeff Hannaford Texas Cup over 1200m highlights a five-race card when Texas Jockey Club hosts its annual race day tomorrow.

A quality nine-horse cup field includes last-start Clifford Park placegetter Rough Eddie for Toowoomba trainer Lindsay Hatch and jockey Paul Hamblin.

Trackside entertainment includes Fashions on the Field and music from Brisbanebased band Zoophonic Blonde.

■ ROMA Turf Club also stages a five-race Bassett Park program starting at 1.30pm.

Feature candidates

TOOWOOMBA gallopers Prioritise, Sold For Song and stablemates Cant-buy-better and Kay Kay Boy continue on their Queensland Summer Carnival path at Doomben tomorrow afternoon when they clash in the $125,000 Listed Brisbane Handicap.

Sold For Song will look to break her long run of outs when she steps to the 1600m for tomorrow’s event for trainer Kevin Kemp who is also represented in the Listed Just Now Fillies and Mares Quality (1350m) by three-year-old Plumaro.
