MERRY SIMPLE CHRISTMAS

- BY SARAH KEELEY, STYLE COLUMNIST

Saying the word, "Christmas" can either make you spring for joy or have you running for the hills.

So, why is it that we have made the Christmas period such a stressful time that really should just be an opportunity to give thanks, rest and share time with loved ones?

My advice…Plan ahead, stick to a budget and learn to say no.

We know the date for Christmas 365 days in advance, so why do we all rush to the shops and act like the world is ending?

Write out a list of people you need to buy for and start chipping away a few months, or even weeks in advance.

There are always amazing sales in the lead up to Christmas and I can assure you no one is going to know what date you bought their gift.

If you’re hosting Cousin Sally and her several children over Christmas (or even just planning on staying put for a few days yourself) it’s always good to plan, prep and budget for the meals ahead.

Write out a meal plan, delegate meals, drinks or snacks to your guests and prepare in advance.

I don’t see why we need to raid the supermarket like it’s D Day to enjoy Christmas or eat five different types of proteins in one meal.

Keeping it local, fresh and simple without all the fuss means everyone can enjoy the day and we don’t end up overindulging.

We are all busy people working hard to keep the motor running.

It is okay to say no to that barbecue or afternoon drink.

Rest, take count of the time you have to regroup and prioritise where (and whom) we spend our time with.

If your sister-in-law doesn’t float your boat, it’s okay to say no to going to her house for a drink. Trust me.

Doing nothing on your break should be completely okay.

Enjoy your Christmas, don’t go broke or grey trying to enjoy it.

Merry simple

Christmas.
