HERITAGE BANK raised more than $70,000 for charity yesterday at a fundraising golf day.

Now in its 21st year, the Heritage Charity Golf Day has raised about $800,000 in total for charities and those in need across both the Darling Downs and Australia since it first began.

Heritage Bank CEO Peter Lock said the day was entirely organised by volunteers.

“That’s the great thing about it, it’s not a corporate event per se,” he said.

“Our staff volunteer for this, they have a separate board and chairman.

“They’ve been doing this for 21 years and to raise over $800,000 in that time is magnificent.”

At the time of print the 2018 event had raised $70,000, but was expected to raise well beyond that. Recipients of the funds this year include the Toowoomba Flexi School, Sunrise Way and the PCYC.

“The board do a really good job in determining who the recipients are,” Mr Lock said.

“A lot of them aren’t big charities, it could be mums and dads who have had a hiccup in their life, or a small charity. It means keeping the doors open or not closing down.”

Mr Lock said playing conditions were perfect for the 192 golfers yesterday.

“Last year we had a tremendous storm at lunchtime, we’ve had strong winds in the past, but (yesterday) the gods were smiling on us,” he said.
