SPEEDWAY: Racing newcomer Tim Harris is eagerly chasing his first speedway podium finish and he can think of no better place to score one than on his home track next Saturday night at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway.

Harris will be part of a huge entry contingent when the Charlton circuit hosts its annual Ultimate Pink Night charity meeting.

The card features sprintcars, modified sedans, lightning sprints, wingless sprints and compact speedcars with women offered free admission as part of fund-raising efforts for breast cancer research.

Harris is looking to put on a good show for home fans behind the wheel of his wingless sprintcar.

Twenty-five-year-old Harris and his brother Ryan (22) followed their father into speedway racing about 18 months ago and share the driving duties in their Q9 machine.

Tim will be in the driver’s seat next Saturday night as the Harris family looks to work their way up the wingless sprint ranks.

“There will be a large crowd there and we’re looking forward to helping put on a good show for the fans,” Tim said.

“That’s what the sport’s all about.

“We bought our car about 18 months as a cost-effective way of getting into racing. We have learnt a lot and our next goal is to get a podium finish.

“We are one of the only teams based in Toowoomba and it’s good to be able to represent our region.

“Toowoomba is a great track and makes for good racing and is a venue where we’d really like to do well.”
