Calendar filled with top events this year

TOOWOOMBA is buzzing with events all year round and 2019 will be no different.

Most notably the Garden City is home to the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers which has collected gold medals at the prestigiou­s Queensland Tourism Awards for four years in a row.

There are also many other incredible events in town that will draw visitors to the Garden City.

Here are 10 events to look forward to this year.

1. PUB CHOIR

When: Thursday, January 17 Where: Blank Space

Led by singing teacher Astrid Jorgensen, Pub Choir involves bringing hundreds of strangers together to learn the harmonies for a popular song within two hours, performing it twice.

The last Pub Choir was held in May, where a crowd of hundreds sang the Elton John classic Rocket Man.

It was a huge success with the entire venue filled with people of all ages.

2. PRESTON PEAK WEDDING FESTIVAL

When: Sunday, February 3 Where: Preston Peak Wines

Couples and dreamers can wander through Preston Peak Winery at its wedding festival next month.

Those who attend the Preston Peak Wedding Festival can visit the wedding tree pavilion and bridal cottage, be dazzled by the wedding chandelier in the cellar door and relax in the Preston Peak Winery surrounds.

Wedding vendors, including photograph­ers, cake makers, videograph­ers, entertainm­ent providers and stylists will be on hand to chat to people about planning their big day.

3. GIN SANITY

When: Saturday, February 23 Where: Blank Space

Toowoomba’s inaugural ginsane festival was such a success, it’s coming back bigger than ever in this year.

About 1000 people from Toowoomba and out-of-town turned up to Gin Sanity at Blank Space last year, and people couldn’t get enough of the variety of drinks and gin-related festivitie­s.

The summer party is back again and this time its spilling outside.

There will be live music, tastings, masterclas­ses and Toowoomba’s biggest gin bar.

It will feature more than 70 varieties of Australian and internatio­nal gin.

4. AN EVENING WITH BILLY SLATER

When: Friday, March 8 Where: Empire Theatre

Billy Slater has cemented his place in rugby league history and he will be in Toowoomba in March to talk about it.

Mr Slater will be live on stage for one night only to talk about his amazing story of resilience, achievemen­t and never-say-die attitude.

There are meet and greet opportunit­ies available.

5. THE 2019 HERITAGE BANK TOOWOOMBA ROYAL SHOW

When: Thursday, March 28 Saturday, March 30

Where: Toowoomba Showground­s

The Toowoomba Royal Show is celebratin­g its 155th year in 2019.

Every year there is new entertainm­ent for the whole family.

They can enjoy class acts, competitio­ns, rides in sideshow alley, as well as incredible fireworks displays.

6. WEETWOOD

When: Saturday, April 6

Where: Clifford Park Racecourse

Crowds of people stream through the gates of Clifford

Park Racecourse for Weetwood each year.

Punters dressed to the nines and looking their best place bets, drink wine and enjoy Toowoomba’s annual race meet.

7. CURVE BALL

When: Saturday, May 4 Where: TBA

The Curve Ball is back for its third year running in 2019.

It is an annual black-tie charity ball that has cemented itself as a trademark fundraisin­g event in the Toowoomba region.

The committee behind the fundraisin­g event consists of a group of young, local Toowoomba men who, after learning of their close friend’s leukaemia diagnosis, decided it was time to band together and raise money for those who need it most.

Each year the Curve Ball black tie event donates profits to chosen recipients - people who have received a life curve ball and needs help “swinging back”, as well as a charity of choice.

8. HAMPTON FESTIVAL

When: Sunday, May 19 Where: Hampton Park

The 2019 Hampton Festival brings together food, art and cultural activities making it a wonderful family event.

Now in its 17th year, the event is jam-packed with thousands of people attending each year.

9. TOOWOOMBA LANGUAGES AND CULTURES FESTIVAL

When: Sunday, August 11 Where: Queens Park

The Toowoomba Languages and Cultures Festival is a celebratio­n of the diversity of languages and cultures that exist within the Toowoomba region.

More than 22,000 people attend the event annually.

The festival brings together more than 100 community groups, service organisati­ons, businesses and partners within the Toowoomba region to support and encourage a sense of belonging and community harmony in our area.

10. TOOWOOMBA CARNIVAL OF FLOWERS

When: September 20 - 29

Where: City and private gardens, the CBD and other areas of town

Since it began in 1949, the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers has flourished and is now an iconic Queensland event.

There is so much to see and do within the 10 days of carnival, including touring all the Chronicle Garden Competitio­n entries, watching the Grand Central Floral Parade and attending the Heritage Bank Festival of Food and Wine.

There is also a gala dinner to kick off the festivitie­s as well as food and wine tours held around the city.
