Woman died after taking ‘unidentified substance’

-

ORGANISERS of Sydney’s FOMO festival, where a 19year-old woman died of a suspected drug ingestion, say they are “deeply saddened” while assuring the public they proactively discourage drug use.

Police say the Central Coast teenager was taken from the Parramatta Park event to Westmead Hospital about 6pm on Saturday, and died later that night. Yesterday, police and NSW Health said it appeared the girl had ingested an unidentified substance before her death though a postmortem and toxicology examination were yet to confirm details. FOMO said their “hearts were with the family” of the woman.

“Our most heartfelt and sincerest condolences go out to her family and friends,” a spokeswoman said in a statement to AAP yesterday.

Ten people were hospitalised after FOMO and three remain in Westmead Hospital in stable conditions.

FOMO said the festival worked closely with legal and medical authorities to ensure plans went as smoothly as possible.

Almost 12,000 people attended FOMO, with officers searching 146 people and finding 54 of them with drugs.

There were 36 arrests at the festival and two of those were charged with drug supply.
