Consistent Heat fear no one in semi

CRICKET: Beth Mooney’s sleepless nights are over and that spells trouble for the Brisbane’s Women’s Big Bash League opponents after the Heat rocketed into the finals.

The Heat qualified for the WBBL finals by knocking off competition heavyweights Sydney Thunder in Cairns on Saturday night.

The three-wicket win with three balls to spare was spearheaded by Mooney’s 55-ball century.

The Australian star whacked 15 boundaries in her 102 to help the Heat post 7-172.

The Heat’s opponent in Saturday’s semi-final double-header in Sydney will be decided today, but Brisbane fears no one following their sizzling regular season.

The Heat finished with a 9-5 record following a taxing season with a heavy travel schedule and Mooney said they were ready to rumble in the finals.

“(The Thunder) have been the form team of the competition,” she said.

“They’ve got some world class players in their line-up. They’ve got great batters and bowlers.

“It was really important for our group to get the win over them, especially heading into finals as it looks like we might play them.

“This is probably the first season out of the four where we’ve been so consistent.

“The key to that has been everyone contributing at different times. We haven’t relied on one player.

“It doesn’t matter who we play in the finals, we’ve got the line-up to do it. The fact we’ve played some really good cricket this season reflects that.”

The winner of each semi-final will progress to the WBBL final on Australia Day.
