TITLE HOODOO IN BRITTEN’S SIGHTS
Elite drivers here for nationals
SPEEDWAY: Defending Australian V8 Dirt Modified champion Kevin Britten will attempt to do what no man has achieved in his class of racing when he contests the 2019 national title at Hi-Tec Oils Speedway Toowoomba on Friday and Saturday nights.
The two nights of racing are not only massive for V8 Dirt Modifieds, but also for the lower budget entry AMCA sedan class with national championship honours also up for grabs.
The Australian Championship double header has attracted the best drivers from both categories to the Toowoomba venue.
Britten is on the brink of history by becoming the only man to have won four consecutive Australian V8 Dirt Modified titles.
He is looking to accomplish what previous hat-trick titleholders Stuart Herne (1998, ’99, 2000), Tim Morse (2006, 07, 08) and Kevin’s brother Peter Britten (2009, 10, 11) could not achieve.
“I think it is a privilege to have the opportunity to be able to try and do it,” Britten said.
“I will try to treat it as though it is another race, but it’s pretty hard to do that as it’s obviously a very big event.
“Wherever we go, there is an element of luck that also needs to come into play and also making the right decisions on the night.”
Britten will face a tough welcoming committee headed by former national titleholders, Mark Robinson, Jai Stephenson, David Clarke, Andrew Pezzutti and Scott Cannon.

Downs drivers contesting the title include Toowoomba’s Ray Klarich and Dalby-based Terry Leerentveld.
Meanwhile Jeremy Moore, who will put his Australian AMCA championship on the line, also will race against the best in Australia and faces an equally tough assignment.
Friday night racing includes Street Stocks and Juniors.
Saturday’s program also features Compact Speedcars, Production Sedans, Formula 500s and Micro Sprints.
Racing starts at 6pm.
