Salvos captain to take on famous marathon

-

TOOWOOMBA Salvation Army Captain Dale Murray will take on a massive international challenge when he runs the London Marathon later this year.

Capt Murray, who has long worked to protect men, women and children from violent situations, will take part in the famous race in April to raise money for the UK Salvos.

Funds raised will go towards the Salvos’ efforts to help thousands of people exploited by human trafficking and modern slavery.

Capt Murray told supporters on his Just Giving donation page that he was already training hard for the event with parkrun events.

“Today I ran a 5km trail run at Cormorant Bay parkrun located in bushland reserve on the banks of Lake Wivenhoe west of Brisbane,” he said in January.

“My preference is running on bitumen or road, but it was fun to try something different – I just needed to be careful not to fall and injure myself.”

To help kick-start the fundraising effort, Capt Murray has organised a charity luncheon at the Picnic Point Function Centre.

The special guest will be ultra-running legend Ron Grant, who became the first person to run solo around Australia, and to cross the Simpson Desert in the summer.

The lunch will be held on February 22 from 11.30am.

Tickets can be purchased at trybooking.com/BAJMT.
