Record cyclists register for Ride the Range

-

THE Rotary Ride the Range is attracting people from all over Queensland to tackle one of the toughest charity rides in the state.

Organisers are anticipating a record number for this year’s event with entries exceeding the previous year’s ride by more than 100.

Event Group Toowoomba’s Jo Capp said with just over eight weeks to go, entries had already eclipsed the 400 mark with about half signed up to do the 100-mile ride.

“Last year we had a record of 600 cyclists take on the challenge and this year looks like we could potentially reach 700,” Mrs Capp said.

“Out of the participants already registered, 68 per cent of them are from outside our postcode and just under 50 per cent have never done Ride the Range before.”

Mrs Capp said the event organisers and the committee were excited about having a professional cycling team KOM Financial from Brisbane and another 50-cyclists strong group from Cam’s Cycle Coaching participate in the ride.

“KOM is an elite racing team that aims to inspire and encourage women and girls to be involved in cycling,” she said.

This year’s charities are Blush Cancer Care, St Andrew’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit and the Rotary District 9630 Drought Relief.

Registrations for the charity ride are still open and for more information or to register for the event visit ridethernge.org.au.
