New junior head joins The Glennie School

-

KATE Harris will join The Glennie School as head of junior years in 2019.

Mrs Harris has more than 26 years of experience in both teaching and leadership positions in the state education system.

She also studied at Griffith University and QUT where she obtained a Bachelor of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education.

Her career has seen her embrace teaching positions from remote north-west Queensland communities to the outskirts of Brisbane, before coming to Toowoomba to work and raise a family.

Mrs Harris’ husband, Roger, works at Toowoomba Grammar School, her son, Alexander is studying in Brisbane, and eldest son William recently completed Year 12 at Toowoomba Grammar School while daughter Isabelle is in Year 11 at Glennie.

With a broad background in leading, teaching and learning, together with studies in Special Education and Early Childhood, Mrs Harris is both excited and challenged by the role ahead.

“I am enjoying extending my connection from the parent community to working at Glennie,” she said.

“Glennie was the school of choice for my daughter as we wanted a school with rich traditions embracing academic rigour within a nurturing environment - a legacy that I am honoured to uphold.

“Girls’ education presents infinite possibilities. It is a challenging time for girls and Glennie’s 2019 theme ‘be the reason’ reminds us all that our actions affect those around us,” Mrs Harris said.
