Passion plays key role in school’s success

-

DALBY State Primary School is one of only three in the state that can offer the Rugby League Program of Excellence to its students.

However that is not the reason behind the educational facility being named Sports Darling Downs Primary School of the Year.

Their success can be attributed to the passion of the school’s HPE teacher Tamara Kavney, the support of principal Mona Anau and the dedication of the school’s students.

“I can’t wait to get to school every day,” Kavney said.

“I heard Jack Gibson say once ‘if you make your passion your career, you’ll never work a day in your life’.

“That’s true for me, I love what I’m doing everyday.”

Kavney said the school was in shock after their award win last Saturday. “It was a real surprise for us,” she said. “There were so many other great schools nominated. It’s a great result for us though – we’re very proud of what we do here.

“The big thing for us is we try to include every student. We have our rugby league and touch football excellence for our more skilled students but it’s not just that.

“We do archery, canoeing, athletics, ultimate frisbee and ultimate golf. “On rainy days we have skipping club and their action based activities on all our walkways.

“It’s all about having happy healthy kids.”
