Brisbane may lose good one

BASKETBALL: Bullets sharpshooter Cameron Gliddon is in doubt for tonight’s do-or-die clash with New Zealand at the Brisbane Convention Centre.

Gliddon received physio treatment on his back and did not train with his Brisbane teammates yesterday.

The back tightness issue is not related to his off-season surgery.

If hosts Perth beat Adelaide last night, the Bullets could still make the playoffs by defeating New Zealand.

Brisbane coach Andrej Lemanis said the Bullets were being “cautious” by not making Gliddon train, but the Boomers guard was not a certain starter for the match-up with the Breakers at Southbank.

“It was smart not to have him practise today. We are hoping he is right for the game,’’ Lemanis said.

“We won’t be ridiculous with it. If he is in danger of doing serious damage we won’t play him, but we hope he’s OK.

“I think it’s more on the (side of ) play than not play, but we’ll see.’’

Lemanis said Bullets players and staff had ruled out a special gathering to watch last night’s clash between the Wildcats and 36ers, which could make tonight’s match in Brisbane a dead rubber.

“It’s a regular night before a game so people have their routines on when they eat and when they sleep,” Lemanis said.

“It will be an individual choice, some people will choose to watch the game and some people will choose to look at the result when it is over.”

Lemanis said Brisbane had got anxious in the loss to Cairns last Saturday and he hoped that was out of their system when they take the court against the Breakers, who could shoot the lights out and run the floor.

“It’s been a good week of practice. We’ve still got a lot to play for, we hope,’’ he said.
