AUSTRALIA'S WORST SERIAL KILLER

51 VICTIMS IN ONE DAY

-

FORMER detective and New South Wales Assistant Police Commissioner Clive Small knows about serial killers. He led the team that eventually captured Australia’s most notorious killer, Ivan Milat. He spent years tracking the Calabrian

Mafia who had blood on their hands from numerous executions. But he didn’t know he was being stalked by Australia’s biggest serial killer – heart disease.

“I’d had no indication of a heart problem but over a period of time I felt I lost my energy and strength and found it hard even to walk up a set of stairs,” he says, “That was the basis on which I went to the doctor. He immediately me in put to hospital where I had a number of tests and that was when the doctor told me I’d had a heart attack. I was quite shocked.” Even though he’s always looked after himself and is a keen walker, the doctors discovered a blockage in one of Clive’s heart arteries, which was then cleared and held open with a stent.

“It can happen to anyone,” Clive, says “But I feel very fortunate only a as few days ago I saw the doctor and he said I’m progressing very well. I’m still undergoing some follow-up examinations, I’m a bit more careful about the food I eat but I can now fully resume my daily walks.

I’m just really grateful for the speed with which the doctor acted. I had no thought about having a heart problem, let alone a heart attack, so my advice to people is go to your doctor and get a heart health check and learn the warning signs of a heart attack.”
