Student celebrates cohort’s high results

-

TOM Dolzan was in France skiing in December last year when he got the news that would ultimately impact the course of his life.

“A few mates of mine were with me and they checked their OPs online and told me to check mine,” he said.

Mr Dolzan, fresh from graduating from Toowoomba Grammar School, logged on to the computer and was met with a pleasant surprise.

He had received an OP1. “There were no words. I was just amazed, really happy,” he said.

Mr Dolzan was one of 38 students from Grammar who received between an OP one to five, the third highest result for a school in the Toowoomba region.

“I loved Toowoomba Grammar,” he said.

“The structure of everything made life so much easier.”

Mr Dolzan visited the school for the final time on Thursday to pass on advice to younger students.

“(I told them) you know you the best,” he said.

“Do what works for you. “Work hard and if you’re doing it for anyone, do it for yourself.”

On Friday Mr Dolzan packed his bags and made the long drive up to Townsville.

“I’m heading up to James Cook University to do dentistry,” he said.

“I’ve always wanted to be a dentist.

“My mum is a rural GP in Kingaroy and she’s been a really big influence on me.

“I’ve always found that area really interesting.”
