Sent packing after 20-0 loss
After cobbling together a seven-man team and losing 20-0 on Sunday, an Italian third division club has been thrown out of the competition.
Pro Piacenza, which hadn’t paid its players or staff, needed to present a team or would have been kicked out of the division after having already forfeited three matches.
The squad and coaching staff refused to go to the game due to unpaid wages, leaving the team to start with six teens and a 39-year-old physiotherapist.
After ruling some of the players were not registered, Lega Serie C’s disciplinary committee disqualified the team from the competition and gave Cuneo a walkover 3-0 win.
