Bad break no hurdle for ‘Critter’

BOXING: Stanthorpe’s Chris “Critter” Brackin will shake off the after effects of a broken nose to make his way back into the Rumours International ring next month.

Brackin is out to build on his six-fight unbeaten record when he faces John Min on March 9 as part of the TGW & Smithy Bring The Big Fights 22 card.

The marathon day and night of amateur and pro fights is part of Toowoomba largest annual boxing event staged in memory of Brayd Smith.

Brackin sustained a broken nose in a recent training incident but trainer Brendon Smith said the untimely injury would prove no setback for the 21-year-old crowd pleaser as he looked to continue his ring climb.

“There is always the chance it will be broken again come fight night, but Chris is a determined young man and he wouldn’t hear of missing the Min fight,” Smith said.

The IBF World Youth Championship featuring Toowoomba’s Steve Spark and Mexican Luis Ronaldo Castillo highlights the card.

“Castillo has fought again since we signed for this fight for another win in December, to take his record to 19-1,” Smith said.

“He is currently at a training camp in Houston Texas and will be coming out of that straight to Australia to fight Stevie for the title.”
