‘It’s not mine’ accused protests

-

A 22-YEAR-OLD man charged with having a shortened firearm, a range of drugs and a wad of cash claimed the property was not his and that he was just sleeping in the room where the items had been found by police.

Daniel Stephen Wright spent the night in custody following the search of a Toowoomba home on Friday where police claim they located a shortened shotgun, and quantities of methyl amp he te mine, MD MA( ecstasy ), LSD and marijuana.

Police also allege Wright had $3520 cash on him.

The 22-year-old appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court's on Saturday morning on 18 charges mostly arising from the police search.

He was not required to enter any pleas to the charges.

However, applying for bail for her client, duty solicitor Amber Acreman told the court her client instructed that he normally lived with his parents in Cambooya and had only been sleeping in the room where the items were allegedly found.

Ms Acreman said a full police brief of evidence would be required which would take time and submitted her client should be granted bail.

Magistrate Viviana Keegan noted Wright had been before the court last year for similar matters including possession of a shortened firearm.

However, Ms Keegan said she would grant bail on condition that Wright live with his parents at Cambooya, abide by a nightly curfew, report to police three times a week and have no contact with three people who were named in court.

The case was adjourned for mention back in the same court on April 24.
