Managing the land

-

Anita Erba

I HAVE lived in Toowoomba for the past 20 years.

Before I moved to Toowoomba, I lived in Brisbane.

The reason why I moved here was for work and the thought of moving to Toowoomba also became more appealing.

Toowoomba is a nice city to live in. It has great parks and its overall aesthetics make it a beautiful place.

In my spare time, I enjoy bush-walking, gardening, bird-watching and reading.

I worked at the council library for about 13 years before I went back to university to study natural resource management.

After I finished my degree, I got a job with the Condamine Alliance before it became Southern Queensland NRM.

One of the memorable moments in my career was helping connect Toowoomba’s refugee and migrant community with The Mulberry Project.

The project was a way to help implement the agricultural knowledge the community has with local farming.

A great aspect of my job is being able to help people in the whole region.

I SHIFTED to Toowoomba from Roma just over a month ago.

There was a job opportunity for a technical officer with the Queensland Murray Darling Committee.

It was a big shift moving from a town with about 6000 people to Toowoomba.

My work out west included working with landholders and feral pest management.

During my time working on pest management, we caught a feral pig which weighed 103kg. It was pretty impressive to see the power and the size of animal that big.

If you get too close they can do some damage if you’re not careful.

I have quite enjoyed working in feral control and electro-fishing.

In my spare time I really enjoy fishing, which I am excited to do up here.

MY FAMILY and I moved to Dalby just over a year ago because my husband got a job out there.

I enjoy the smaller country-town lifestyle that Dalby has.

I have been working in the natural resource management industry for about 14 years.

A highlight of working in the industry is meeting some innovative landholders.

During my career, one of the memorable moments was when I started my career and when the Vegetation Management Act was being implemented. It was quite a contentious subject at the time.

I MOVED to Toowoomba from Chinchilla when I started studying accounting at the University of Southern Queensland.

Toowoomba is a city that has a lot of opportunities such as work prospects and being able to meet people from different cultures.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my children, walking the dog and gardening.

My family and I live in a new house with a sparse garden, so I have taken up gardening trying to brighten up the back yard.
