Easter a time of joy for all at Yukana Private

With the advent of cooler weather and autumn-coloured leaves, everyone at this local retirement village knows Easter is just around the corner

CIVIC Group managing director Brett Mullen knows it’s a special time for everyone.

“Easter carries different meanings for different people, but overall it’s a celebration of life and an opportunity to come together with family,” Brett said.

Lots of family come to visit the residents at Yukana over the Easter period — from sons and daughters who live further away to extended family visiting their grandparents or great-grandparents.

Families love spending time together in the beautiful areas of Yukana.

“Now that it’s autumn, the gardens are starting to show the change of season,” Brett said.

“We have deciduous trees throughout, especially in the Total Care Facility and Japanese Maples in the inner courtyard.”

Of course, there’s also the option for families to take mum or dad (or nanna or pop) out for the day, with the extra events on to celebrate Easter or simply have lunch in a nice cafe or restaurant.

“Our staff are also excellent in assisting families to know where to go and what to do,” Brett added.

If residents wish, there is a bus to take them to the 6am Good Friday service up at Picnic Point, or the special combined 10.30am service on Sunday at Civic church.

While Friday afternoons are always a special time in the Total Care Facility as the relationship manager walks around with the aptly-named ‘Fun Food Trolley’, it becomes even more exciting in the weeks surrounding Easter.

“There are extra treats around afternoon tea, such as Easter eggs and fruit hot cross buns.

“There’s always that excitement about picking out the right coloured egg-foil, and management always enjoy participating in the giving of Easter eggs to the residents.”

The Village celebrates this time with everything themed Easter that week, from hot cross buns for morning tea (specifically fruit ones at residents’ requests!) to indoor bowls with Easter eggs and lots of Easter-themed in-house movies.

“There is one thing we can guarantee, and that is that the Easter eggs will flow,” Brett said.
