Double speedway fun

Modified sedans top twin card

SPEEDWAY: Shane Macdonald has enjoyed a solid start to his racing year, but he couldn’t think of a better place to take it up another gear than on home soil at this weekend’s twin HiTec Oils Toowoomba Speedway meetings.

Shane will line up with a string of other Toowoomba hopefuls — including his brother Nathan — during a mammoth two programs of racing on Friday and Saturday nights.

Headlining racing is the Modified Sedan PS Designer Homes T-Bar National where the Macdonald brothers take on competitors from as far away at Western Australia and Victoria for the $5000 to-the winner purse.

More than 150 entries have been received across all categories including Modlites and Juniors on Friday night and Super Sedans, Modlites, Formula 500s, Wingless Sprints and Juniors on Saturday night.

Shane opened 2019 on a good note with a second-place finish behind Aidan Raymont in the rich Kings Royal at Kingaroy in January where Nathan finished third.

But with more than $30,000 in prize money on offer, a new engine on board and hometrack knowledge on his side Shane is aiming to go one better this weekend.

“We just put a new engine in at the weekend and with all new panels and paint work I’m looking forward to getting out there,” Shane said.

“Our class is really competitive. Anyone can win and that’s the beauty of it.

“It will be really tough racing this weekend.

“We have cars coming form Western Australia and Victoria and I’m sure the good payout structure of this meeting has led to the big interest. “Everyone gets something. “The winner of the A Main gets I think $5000 and just to make the field earns you something like $500.

“A lot of other drivers probably haven’t raced here much so hopefully local knowledge can work in my favour.

“Making the A Main is the first goal and anything can happen from there.”

Former National champion and Modified Sedan legend Greg Worling is amongst the entries for this weekend’s Modified Sedan showdown.

The NSW entry list includes Lismore’s Jordan Biviano.
