Quality cattle on show
Renewed support for competition
ENTRY numbers in the beef and dairy sections of the Heritage Bank Toowoomba Show have been maintained this year, despite the trying conditions.
Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland vice president and dairy cattle chairman Wayne Bradshaw said the quality of the dairy cows on show was impressive.
“The farmers have spent so much time on their cows, looking after them so they come in as best they can. They are representing not just themselves but the dairy industry too,” Mr Bradshaw said.
“We’re happy with the numbers that we have (in the dairy section) this year, we have just over 120 head coming through, which is the same sort of numbers as what we’ve had for the last few years in a row.”
Beef cattle chairman Cameron Collins said the livestock sections provided life blood to the show.
“We’re up around 20 head (in the beef section) this year, which is surprising given the weather conditions,” Mr Collins said.
“The amount of time, feed and love and care the breeders have put into the animals is second to none.”
Both men thanked contestants for their continued support of the show.
“We’ve all been going through some tough times with rain, but we would like to thank all of the agricultural contestants – it’s important for people to see where their food comes from and how Australia runs,” Mr Collins said.
The feature breeds for this year’s dairy and beef shows are Illawarra and Australian Lowline respectively. The cattle will be on show from today to Saturday in the cattle pavilion, with main judging tomorrow from 8.30am-2pm.
