A WOMAN thrown from a vehicle and impaled by a tree in a horror single-vehicle crash west of Toowoomba is recovering in a Brisbane from serious injuries.

The 36-year-old woman was the sole-occupant of the car which slammed into a tree on Dalby Cooyar Rd near Kaimkillenbun about 4.30pm on Tuesday.

Initial investigations indicate the woman had not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was thrown from the vehicle.

Queensland Ambulance paramedics treated the woman at the scene for “significant injuries” to her legs, arms, pelvis and abdomen.

The woman is understood to have been impaled by a part of the tree in the horror smash.

The woman was trapped inside the vehicle while emergency services worked to free her, including cutting parts of the tree to clear access for paramedics.

Police at the scene diverted traffic around the incident with the road closed for about an hour.

She was initially taken by road to Dalby Hospital before RACQ LifeFlight airlifted her to a Brisbane hospital.

The rescue service’s critical care doctor travelled with the woman to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where she remains and is undergoing treatment.

The Forensic Crash Unit was called to the incident and is investigating what caused the crash on the sealed rural road.

It is believed to have occurred on a straight stretch of the road.

The crash is believed to have been reported to police by a passing motorist.

Investigators have called for any witnesses to the incident, or who may have relevant dashcam footage, to come forward.
