Hunt to name faces

CHARLEVILLE: A group of 65 men stood in front of the original Charleville RSL subbranch for this photo, but today only two of their names are known.

Records show the World War I veterans came from across the west to be there, from as far as Miles at least, some time in the 1920s or 1930s. But aside from that, there is precious little information.

Since finding the photo, Julie Gundry has been on the hunt to connect faces to their rightful names.

“My grandfather is in the photo, and it is part of our family history. He had it and then my father had it,” she said.

“As it turns out, both my grandfather and my husband’s grandfather are both in the picture.

“On the back it says it was printed by the Western Photographic Studio in Charleville.” Having reached out to the Charleville RSL president George Donohue, Mrs Gundry said she hoped others in the community might recognise the faces.

Email rslcharleville@gmail.com if you have information on it.
