SHORTENING NAMES

-

KEV McKay (letters, TC, 22/3) makes some good points about abbreviations of names. However, it’s my view that any name will be get shortened, or failing that, lengthened, especially by school mates who can be quite inventive.

My beloved late Grandma always complained about names being altered. When we pointed out at that the names of her three children, Michael, Jean and Margaret, had become Mickie, Jinnie and Bungie, she replied with typical Grandma logic, “That’s different”.
