Miller cleared of using ‘illegal’ aid
MOTORSPORT: Jack Miller has been cleared of accusations he used an “illegal” aerodynamic device at the Qatar Moto GP.
A technical protest was lodged with Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme MotoGP stewards against the Townsville rider for using a swingarm winglet during the season opener in Qatar on March 10.
Ducati riders Andrea Dovizioso, who won the Qatar round with the device installed on his bike, and Danilo Petrucci faced similar complaints.
The complaints were lodged by Team Suzuki Ecstar, Repsol Honda Team and Red Bull KTM Factory Team and Aprilia Racing Team Gresini.
The protesting teams considered the swingarm winglet was primarily used as an aerodynamic device and did not comply with the MotoGP technical regulations. The MotoGP Court of Appeal rejected the device was illegal and refused to ban it from races yesterday following a hearing in Mies, Switzerland.
The device did little to help Miller (pictured), who is preparing for this weekend’s race in Argentina, after he was forced to retire from the first race due to a seat malfunction and tyre wear.
