Claiming an early victory in this season’s James “Cowboy” Price Series is a hard act to top but Nathan Politch is aiming to do so at this weekend’s dual Hi-Tech Oils Toowoomba Speedway meetings.
The final two rounds of the Modlite series will be run on Friday and Saturday nights on a gala weekend of racing also featuring the rich Modified Sedan PS Designer Homes T-Bar National.
Politch has dominated the James Price Series to date and takes an unassailable points lead into this week’s final two rounds.
But the Toowoomba driver is eager to put an exclamation mark on his series success with a home-track victory.
This series is run in honour of speedway participant James “Cowboy” Price who lost his battle with mental illness and Politch will become the latest driver to have his name engraved on the trophy.
“This is about the fourth year it has been run and we have it pretty much won heading into this weekend,” Politch said.
“Even with a couple of non finishes we can’t be caught.
“It’s been a really consistent series for us.
“I think out of the first nine rounds we have been off the podium only three times.”
Politch has racked up series wins at Lismore, Maryborough and Brisbane.
“A lot of our success I suppose comes down to some hard work and dedication and although the series is in our keeping winning at home this weekend would really top it off,” Politch said.
“There will be a lot of fast guys racing but Rod Pammenter has won here in one of our cars so if we can have some luck there is no reason we can’t be on the podium again.
“To race at a two-night meeting is a lot of work but to be able to do it at home is pretty exciting and we’re looking forward to two good nights.”
Dalby’s Terry Leerentveld will be looking to stand in the way of a winning Politch series finish when he looks to continue his good recent form in his return to Toowoomba.
Leerentveld maintained his successful 2019 run with a Brisbane victory last weekend as he continues fine tuning for next month’s Australian title at Kingaroy.
“We haven’t focused fulltime on the James Price Series but the car is going well and we’ve had some good results,” Leerentveld said.
“We had another win last weekend in Brisbane and before that we started in 19th position at Kingaroy and came through to finish second.
“I love the Toowoomba venue and have had a fair bit of luck there so this weekend will be a great opportunity to continue fine tuning for next month’s Australian titles.”
