ANOTHER of Toowoomba’s bright young lawyers has been recognised for his work and dedication with inclusion in the finals of a prestigious national award.

Kennedy Spanner Lawyers solicitor John Davis is among the final eight lawyers contesting the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 final in the criminal law category.

Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 is Australia’s largest independent awards program that recognises excellence in young lawyers.

The awards are judged by a panel of some of the country’s leading law experts.

“When you look at the calibre of the judges it’s really humbling,” Mr Davis said of his nomination.

“It’s pretty amazing actually.”

Mr Davis works in various legal areas but enjoys working predominantly in criminal law.

“I like working in criminal law, it’s a very diverse area of the law,” he said.

“You can go in one day with a drink-driver and then represent some really sophisticated matter.

“You’ve got to be able to adjust to do a good job of it.

“And if you do a good job you can really make a difference in someone’s life.

“If you have a client who is borderline going to jail and you can keep them out, you can really give them a second chance.”

Mr Davis will travel to Sydney in May for the announcement of the winners of the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 awards.

“I’m lucky to know some of the other finalists in other categories from across the country and it will be nice to catch up with them,” he said.
